The rain stayed away!

Lillie, her Daddy & I had a lovely trip to Kent today - first stop was Royal Tunbridge Wells where we visited the museum & art gallery. http://www.tunbridgewellsmuseum.org/ The gallery was not probably for Lillie, but the toy museum was definitely her cup of tea! It wasnt as big as I had expected but one cannot complain seeing as it was free admission!

Next stop was Hadlow Castle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadlow_Castle - its up for renovation due to the damage it suffered during the 1987 hurricane. I think the repairs are long overdue, but seeing as the building is still in private ownership may have something to do with the delays. Anyway I will look forward to taking Lillie back when its looking as it should. However, what we did see was very interesting - the grounds, the lake, Lillie had a go on a tree swing which she loved & is still talking about it! While standing in the castle courtyard we had a chat at how once it would of been a busy place with lots of goings on - cooks, stable boys, guards, local farmers etc. Lillie & I spoke of perhaps there being little girls her own age running about & that they would be wearing very different clothes to the ones she had on! You can almost hear the voices of the past if you put your mind to it. Wouldnt it be great if we could time travel?

Next stop was St.Mary's church in Hadlow - a very quaint village church & Lillie's first time in one. We were greeted by two lovely local church goers who were very pleasant & welcoming. Lillie's Dad grew up in the area & went to the local primary school, so the conversation was flowing. The lady mentioned her two grandchildren also lived in the area but didnt go to the local school as they had been Home Educated... Wow small world! I mentioned that Lillie is also HE'd and the lady responded with a huge smile, which made me feel good. Before leaving for home, we took a look round the church cemetry - Lillie, her Daddy & I took as close a look as possible at a few headstones & tombs, but some where difficult to read, as the inscriptions were quite weatherworn. Lillie didnt quite grasp the concept of how many years the stones & tombs had been there for, but she will in time...

Last stop - fish & chip shop! Then home for some well earned rest... And here I am updating my blog so as not to forget what is fresh in my mind... I will upload the days pics asap, but for now I am off to get into my warm PJ's and have a hot choc before I do some studying...

Last words from Lillie - today was lovely and brilliant. The best bit was Hadlow Castle.
