Well, Lillie was picked up about an hour and a half ago, so I have the house to myself this weekend. It's very quiet and strange with her gone. It always feels this way for the first part of the day. Then I usually occupy myself with whatever I have planned or otherwise. By the time tomorrow afternoon gets here, I will be so looking forward to her return. I miss her so much when we are apart. Though the time away from each other does us good, I guess. So, here I am, blogging! I've not been a regular blogger these days. But, there is not a day that passes where Lillie and I have not had fun, gained knowledge, overcome obstacles and most importantly said we love each other. Do I sound emotional today? No, just so happy to share my life with such an amazing little person. This week has been great. Lillie joined the dance class mentioned in my previous post. The tutor was very welcoming, approaching Lillie first, being a new face. They had a little chat about dancing and I was happy to meet someone else who approves of home education. She was the second person who I came across this week in support of our life without school. The first was on Tuesday. I had to make a phone call to book a meeting I have to attend, mid July. I had to also mention whether it is possible to bring Lillie along as she is home educated. The response I got was, "snap!" The lady said she had home educated her daughter, after a not so nice experience in primary school. Her daughter had rung prior to me to let her Mum know she had just received a distinction in her art module at college. I was delighted for them both. We continued to chat further, forgetting why I had called in the first place! The last words she spoke to me before ringing off was to have a fun day...
Back to the dance class now! Lillie settled in from the offset. She took part in a little freestyle disco routine in a group practise then on the stage, followed by all the students doing the same routine as a solo. Lillie was fantastic! The class moved on with some steps from the samba, the rumba and the foxtrot. Lillie is definitely comfortable being there and will be a regular member from here on in.
Thursday and Friday, Lillie wanted to work on some literacy and mostly numeracy. She has started to realise the importance of these two, for academic reasons. Yet is appearing hungry for the challenge of it all. I found her grabbing some of the 'text book' style books we possess for this type of work on Friday morning. She has become familiar with them for the past four years or so, however, I have never relied on them as a learning tool. So, have only been used for brief activities to be honest.
Yesterday, Lillie flew through many of the exercises set, especially with ones in the 'spelling' and 'adding and subtracting' books.
Before browsing through the french book and completing a couple of exercises.

Making up her own sums to answer...
I also introduced another method with adding up larger numbers...
Lillie picked it up fairly quickly...
Some French... Though, I do my best to talk with her in french too! Just basic conversation because that's all I can rememeber!

Spelling pluaral words...She picked up the same books again this morning! Unfortunately she had to get ready for her weekend with her Dad. And while doing so, we sang along to some songs in the musical, Mamma Mia! I guess a visit to the bookstore for more of the above types of books will be necessary. It's working for her so why not?
