Spokes, spuds and sequins

Lillie has loved having her new bike, so much so, that she drew a fabulous picture of it for me. Thought I would share it. Food, once again has been a high priority this week, and not for the reasons that it helps keep us alive, but more so in the fact that we have further harvested some more home grown veggies that have been a treat. Yesterday we enjoyed some home grown corn on the cob topped with some butter and pepper. Delicious is an understatement. Some home grown spuds went lovely with dinner too. It's true home grown just tastes that bit better. We certainly could feel the love in the room!! Having grown some veggies, saw us venturing out early this morning to collect some blackberries. I know it is too late really to expect a large batch, but a kind lady saw what we were up to and pointed us in the right direction, where we got most of our berries from. So thank you kind lady. They've had a good wash and are chilling in the fridge until tomorrow, when they will be turned into jam.

There's something I've noticed about Lillie lately - her enthusiasm for fashion. She's not what I call a fashion victim, yet is clearly discovering her own style of late. Some days, she's very expressive and is very particular with her look. She's indicated that she would like a pair of Dr. Marten's (in pink) and has even come up with a Lillie designed outfit that she would like me to help with making. The style is probably somewhat too mature for her, but would be ideal for Lillie to express herself, as well as it not being too difficult to create. I've suggested this outfit should be made by hand, so we can sit together and work on different sections without the humming of the sewing machine interferring with any discussions on the subject of fashion - looks like my fashion and textiles lessons from school will come in handy yet again!

One of Lillie's expressive moments...

This is the original design Lillie was working on Thursday evening and presented me with it Friday morning...

After an extensive discussion and a few additions -the final drawn piece, detailing sequins, feathers and a satin sash. Thankfully I captured what Lillie wanted in her design. Not a great drawing on my part, but Lillie is delighted with it and that's what counts at this stage. I'm sure together, we can create the actual outfit that Lillie had in mind. It will be superb...

What else has been happening? Well, Lillie has loved being back at her dance class - she placed an order with the teacher for the dance school's logo-ed t-shirt and hoody. She's also back at GB - and came home with some goodies to eat. Judo starts it's autumn term this evening, which she can't wait for. She's also continued on with her autumn project and worked on some numeracy. We've got through seven chapters of Oliver Twist - she's coping well with it through discussion, yet is disgusted that life was actually like this for some during Dickens' time. I do keep indicating with out spoiling the story that there is a happy ending for Oliver. Or should I say Ollie? That's what we are calling it. I do hope Mr Dickens doesn't mind.

Tomorrow morning, we can go collect Lillie's new winter jacket that she fell in love with, while out buying clothes two weeks ago. No doubt she will want some accessories to go with it, by way of a scarf, gloves etc... So, lots to be getting on with. And lots of smiles going on too.

  1. Lillie's fashion design interest reminds me so much of Angel at that age (by the way - pink DMs sound fantastic!) have fun with it all :-)

Your home grown stuff looks great - definitely tastes better when it comes from the back yard! xx
