A Birthday Celebration

Yesterday my son Louis turned 22! The years have flown by and I can certainly say they have been great. Even during the down times, when I have felt I have got something wrong as a parent or he has needed a shoulder to cry on, we have learnt lessons. He has become a fine young man and I am very proud of him. I love him to infinity and beyond and back again.

Newborn and could already be a singer!

The Musician!

And of course The Poser!

On Wednesday Louis visited as I knew yesterday would be impossible to see him with him doing his own thing to celebrate and rightly so. So, Lillie and organised our afternoon of celebration with him. Tuesday, after I had finished work and collected Lillie from Dee's, we headed off to Woolwich High Street for a few things - mostly a couple of gifts to wrap. One being a prank present - a Pirate Colouring Book with colouring pencils! We always do such things on Birthdays and at Christmas. That evening we hung up some Birthday banners and blew up some balloons. Dinner was already discussed Monday - so Mexican was the chosen meal to have. And of course a birthday cake!

Louis was already at home when Lillie and I got in on Wednesday - we were quite excited actually. One, because it was Louis's pre-birthday celebration and two, because we had just seen our Uncle Brian working near the road we live on. He works for our Borough collecting the residents' refuse. He had a new refuse lorry (worth £150 000.00) and we were invited to get in as our Uncle was driving it.

We loved it - it's a very sensitive piece of machinery and stops instantly when the brakes are applied, it moves with tremendous power when it accelerates, although we didn't go fast because the bins were being loaded/unloaded at the time. We watched the monitor that's attached to a camera at the back, which is installed for safety purposes - so we could see Brian's co-workers doing their thing. There were lots of buttons in the cab section - of course I had to say, "what's this button do?" as my hand motioned the intention to press the button (of course I didn't actually put my suggestiveness in to practice!).

Lillie couldn't wait to tell her brother and stated she would like to go to work with her Great Uncle one day - I shall take pics next time we see our Uncle at work. We know his route on a Tuesday so will have my camera on me. I wonder if our Borough offer work experience for such jobs for their youngsters during their latter teens? I will look in to it, if Lillie still wants to gain some experience. To be honest, I wish I could cos I know I'd love to experience something like this.

Well Louis was delighted with the gifts, including the Pirate Colouring Book, which he immediately gave to Lillie! He appreciated the money I gave him. Lillie gave up her week's pocket money to give to her Bro - Louis was well chuffed. And I think Lillie felt rather grown up. She also helped prepared dinner and then went back to playing her Wii game (Zelda) with her brother's help.

I love to see empty plates after a meal!!

Happy Birthday my gorgeous Son xx
