A sad time amongst some happy ones...

I'm going to start this posting with a sad event and end it on a happier one. This time last week, our beloved cat, Rocco found himself in trouble. Somehow he had got himself trapped under a neighbour's car engine and it appears was there for most of the night.

He was clearly traumatised as was Lillie, some of our neighbours and friends who helped and of course myself. We were unable to free him so the Fire Brigade were called and thankfully managed to get him out. I managed to get him to the emergency vets not too far from home and our very kind neighbour drove us. Rocco was seen instantly and the diagnosis was that he was suffering from hypothermia and needed urgent treatment.

He was kept in overnight and last Monday was transferred to the PDSA. My vet bills were rising to the £300 mark, which I do not mind at all. However, as I still claim Housing Benefit I am eligible for free veterinary care for this situation. When Lillie and I collected Rocco, he looked alert and appeared happy to see us. Sadly on arrival to the PDSA, it became clear his injuries were more extensive than we had first thought. Unfortunately his around 20 years of life was against him. The vet advised the best possible thing for Rocco was to let him go.

It came as a complete shock to me as it was not at all indicated this may happen. Though, I think somewhere deep in my being I always knew it was a possibility. Rocco was put to sleep on Monday 8th April 2013. Lillie and I were both present and we told him we loved him, kissed him and said goodbye. Lillie made sure to state that we want to bring him home. We have always had a pact that he would be buried in our garden. Thank goodness she said to take him home because my mind was blank and to be honest I was a mess.

We brought him home and the sun came out and lit up a little spot in our garden. Rocco was in his carrying basket so I placed him on the grass in the sunshine for one last time. He is now resting peacefully in the most sunniest section of our garden. Lillie made him some drawings and we laid daffodils for him. R.I.P old boy - always in our hearts...

Since Monday, we've had down moments, yet some happy things have occurred too. Lillie attended a little birthday celebration, the allotment viewing occurred - a lovely plot with a shed and compost heap in a sunny spot and a tree for shade if need be on those hot, sunny days when we are working away. The tenancy agreement has arrived, which I've signed and hopefully can return in person Tuesday the latest. We really want the site keys so we can get started!

Our Race for Life t- shirts, race numbers etc arrived mid week and we can state that at this moment in time we have reached 70% of our fundraising target. Once we pass that target we shall up it as we believe we will exceed what we initially hoped to raised.

As I have mentioned in a previous post Lillie has a pen pal, who is also HE and lives in British Columbia. Yesterday Lillie received a postcard from her new pal. Lillie was herself in the process of writing, but this week's events meant Lillie has not finished her letter. Hopefully this coming week will see her posting a reply.

Other good news is that our wonderful next door neighbours, who we love so much have decided they will not be moving away now. It was on the cards that Lillie and I were off too. But, we all know in life things change. We have decided to stay put also. As my good neighbour stated, I am an Eltham bird lol... But, so is she and we do love our hometown.

Yesterday, I got out into the garden for some summer prep - the sun is predicted to shine today so the grass will be mowed and then it's all ready. Lillie is at her Dad's this weekend, but from what she has been telling me, she is having an enjoyable time. A trip to the nail bar with her step-mum was on the yesterday's events and I'm sure they look very pretty. I must admit I am looking forward to seeing her tomorrow - well I always do, but after the past week I wanna hug her even more...
