Poetry in Motion....

Back home after yet another busy day - Lillie has been out 'n' about with attending 'coffee morning' at the Army Barracks this morning and Girls' Brigade this evening. She now knows the panto she is seeing on Saturday. It was revealed this evening...

 
 
During the middle half of today, Lillie and I sat down together to work on some poetry as planned, from this morning's discussions. We started this afternoon, chatting more about 'sonnets', Shakespeare and just some regular sonnet 'rules', yet in more detail this time - How many lines (14) and 10 beats per line (Iambic pentameter). Lillie checked this for herself, using a book of poems from our bookshelf. This discussion was followed by preparing to write a poem. Not just Lillie, but me too.


Our theme is 'smile'. So, we each wrote 5 things that make us smile, using bullet points (this was another follow-on discussion from this poetry activity of when bullet points are used). After, Lillie had to choose one of my bullet points to write about and the same for me with choosing one of her bullet points. It just mixes things up a little, making it enjoyable and fun to continue on with. And why not?

I remember mixing things up a little, using sugar on a tray to get Lillie interested in 'writing' all those years ago but, not letters first because there are 26 letters in the alphabet to remember! We only ever use 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 digit wise. So, it's easier with getting the hand to co-ordinate with number recall. Plus, was fun for Lillie shaking the tray to clear the page!! This method made the transition to letter formation and remembering the sequence of letters easier for Lillie. This is just my theory from observing my two children and seeing them be shown two different techniques. Back to the poem - to be continued... So, a little activity still in progress....
